| Q |
What kinds of books to you publish? |
| A |
All kinds - any fiction genre you can think of, we
publish it. Except for picture books and young readers.
Middle-grade, YA and adult in any genre are welcome here at
LBF! |
|
| Q |
Do I need an agent to submit to LBF? |
| A |
No. We welcome first-time authors as well as
previously published ones. We'd like to hear about your
work from YOU, the author. Agents are also more than
welcome to submit their clients work - but it's not a
prerequisite to submit. |
|
| Q |
How can I submit my MS? |
| A |
When the house is open to new submissions, we are happy to accept your manuscript via our
an on-line query. Please refrain from sending hard copy
of your manuscript.
If you have a submission with us, you can email us at
any time regarding a question about your submission.
|
|
| Q |
What goes in my submission package? |
| A |
We would like to see three sample chapters, a synopsis
and a marketing plan along with your query. If we like what we
see, you will be asked to submit more.
|
|
| Q |
How long until I hear about my submission? |
| A |
That's a tricky question. The short answer is "it
depends". We try to get to all our query letters as
soon as possible, but due to the hundreds of submissions
we receive, sometimes we get behind. Manuscripts,
obviously take longer. |
|
| Q |
How many books do plan on publishing each year? |
| A |
At the present time LBF Books intends to publish 6
books per year. As we grow we will be adding more titles
each year, but not right now. |
|
| Q |
Is LBF a Print-On-Demand publisher? |
| A |
Yes. If your book is selected for publication, we will
assign you an Editor and your book will be printed in
small print runs and distributed to our regular channels
as Baker and Taylor and their customers, Barnes and
Noble, and to any store who contact us and is willing to
hold a booksigning. |
|
| Q |
Are there any costs to me? |
| A |
No, we do not ask you to pay for any of our services. |
|
| Q |
Is LBF a vanity publisher? |
| A |
No. Each manuscript that is requested is
carefully read. We won't lie to you - the competition is
tough. We received hundreds of submissions and publish
only those who meet our standards of publication. We take pride in what
we put out - a quality product. |
|
| Q |
What happens if you do choose to publish my book? |
| A |
First of all, congratulations! Next, your book is put
into the queue with the others we have selected for
publication. When your editor is ready, you and he/she will
work together to make sure your book is the best it can
be. Your assigned illustrator will be provided with a
graphic form that you've filled out (to use as a
guide) then create beautiful, one of a kind cover and interior
artwork to complement your story. Bear in mind that the
cover art is the final decision of the publisher. |
|
| Q |
How much money does LBF Books invest in promoting
their own books? |
| A |
At the present time LBF Books places ads wherever
possible and submit a preset number of hard copies/ebooks
for reviews. We will help design any
ads for authors who chose to place an ad in a magazine.
Our promotion budget increases from year to year. |
