Frequently Asked Questions...

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q What kinds of books to you publish?
A All kinds - any fiction genre you can think of, we publish it. Except for picture books and young readers. Middle-grade, YA and adult in any genre (including poetry) are welcome here at LBF! Right now, we are highly interested in Women's fiction and Life's drama.

Q Do I need an agent to submit to LBF?
A No. We welcome first-time authors as well as previously published ones. We'd like to hear about your work from YOU, the author. Agents are also more than welcome to submit their clients work - but it's not a prerequisite to submit.

Q How can I submit my MS?
A We are happy to accept your manuscript via snail mail but we prefer you use our on-line submissions centre. Please ensure you enclose a SASE with your submission.
Your MS will be assigned a number that allows you to track your submission and keep in touch with the Staff at LBF. Any time you have a question about your submission, please e-mail us, using the tracking number so we can find your sub right away.

Q What goes in my submission package?
A We would like to see a sample chapter along with your query, but it's not a requirement. If we like what we see, you will be asked to submit more.
If you don't want to e-sub, please send a query and sample chapter to the LBF offices. The address is listed in the Contact Centre.

Q How long until I hear about my submission?
A That's a tricky question. The short answer is "it depends". We try to get to all our query letters as soon as possible, but due to the hundreds of submissions we receive, sometimes we get behind. Manuscripts, obviously take longer. Currently the wait time for query letters is around six-eight weeks. Manuscripts up to six months.

Q How many books do plan on publishing each year?
A At the present time LBF Books intends to publish 6 books per year. As we grow we will be adding more titles each year, but not right now.

Q Is LBF a Print-On-Demand publisher?
A No. If your book is selected for publication, we will assign you an Editor and your book will be printed in small print runs and distributed.

Q Are there any costs to me?
A No, we do not ask you to pay for any of our services.

Q Is LBF a vanity publisher?
A Again, no. Each manuscript that is requested is carefully read. We won't lie to you - the competition is tough. In 2005, we only published 20 books - and received hundreds of submissions. We take pride in what we put out - a quality product.

Q What happens if you do choose to publish my book?
A First of all, congratulations! Next, your book is put into the queue with the others we have selected for publication. When your editor is ready, you and he will work together to make sure your book is the best it can be. Your assigned illustrator will also read the book and create beautiful, one of a kind cover and interior artwork to complement your story.

Q How much money does LBF Books invest in promoting their own books?
A At the present time LBF Books places ads in Writers Post Journal a monthly magazine. We will help design any ads for authors who chose to place an ad in magazine. We have plans to invest more into promotion in the near future

Public Relations F.A.Q.

Q Where do I send my review?
A How do I get a review copy?
Please contact our publicist, LeeAnn Lessard, at leeann.lessard@sympatico.ca for all review copy requests and to send all tear sheets and reviews.

Q I would like to interview or contact one of your authors. How do I contact them?
A Many of our authors have their own websites where you can contact them - please look at the menu on the left-hand side of the screen to find them. If the author you want to interview does not, please contact leeann.lessard@sympatico.ca and she will put you in touch with the author you wish to interview.

Q I'm a fan of one of your authors. Where can I write them?
A If the author you want to write to doesn't have a website listed, please send your e-mail to lbf@lbfbooks.com and we will see that it gets to the author. If you would like to send a snail mail letter, please send it to the LBF offices, address listed in the Contact Centre.

Q Where can I buy LBF books?
A All of our books are available through the LBF bookstore, Amazon.com, and Barnes and Noble.com and Chapters-Indigo.com. Most are also available for in-store pickup through Borders, and in some Borders stores. Libraries and independent bookstores can order through LBF directly, or through Baker & Taylor

Q Can I get an LBF author to come and speak to my group or do a book signing?
A That depends on where the author is and where you are, and how far the author is willing to travel. Please contact LeeAnn Lessard to talk about an LBF author coming to visit you.
